EBay takes on Westfield in new Ads

The new eBay ads have been causing some interesting conversations in the office and on Twitter. We wondered if this is a pre-emptive strike by eBay on Westfield who are rumoured to launching an ‘uber-commerce’ website soon. As you can see below Ebay’s traffic is still trending pretty well Year-on-Year with the silly season about to kick in. In other timely news DJ’s has launched it’s own ecommerce site (here).

Have been interested to see the eBay ads also. Interesting post. As for DJs launching an online store – surely 5 years too late! I remember being at a large agency a few years back and Myers were dead against having an online store. We just couldn’t understand why you wouldn’t want to open up your options with a 24/7 global online store.

On a side note, only recently I worked for a well known client (while at an ad agency) whose brief included the fact that they wanted nothing to do with social media (twitter, facebook, foursquare etc). My thoughts are they will soon, they should do and if not they need to be educated better in the digital space or they’ll get left behind by their competitors.

Excellent blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!
